Most of us who cast a vote in US elections probably have our minds made up as to who we'll choose for the next president and for our congressional members up for re-election.
Regardless of your morals or religious beliefs you really need to be honest with yourself about what you need in your life from a financial perspective; not just for today, but for your retirement as well. Many people cast votes that are economically detrimental not only to themselves, but to other hard-working Americans who have suffered greatly because of the Bush era mistakes.
In this election we will choose between a GOP vision which takes us back to the "cut taxes at any cost" perspective that got us here, or to re-elect an administration that is focused on strengthening the middle class and providing incentives for businesses who create jobs here in the US.
I talk to people who already benefit from the health care reform bill who are willing to completely throw that away because of their animosity toward our first half-black president. It doesn't make sense to let hatred and bigotry jeopardize the health of your family. The bill needs work, but it's an important step forward to providing health care for all while reducing costs.
It's time to get real folks, and it's time to stop legislating morality and get to the important work of rebuilding our country and economy for the benefit of the many, and not just the top one percent. This isn't class warfare, because by strengthening the middle class, the very wealthy would also reap great financial benefits.
Unfortunately being born rich doesn't mean you inherited intellectual prowess, and we're seeing the results of this blind ignorant greed in the reckless financial policy proposals of the GOP.
We'll be bombarded with a lot of BS until this election is decided, but I only ask that you dig beneath the surface to find the truth rather than just eating every morsel of crap that's flung on the wall by vicious political operatives. (from both sides)
Extremists will try to push us to violence if they don't get their way, and it's up to all of us, (especially my fellow veterans) to take a stand against those who want to violate civil rights and engage in voter suppression. We need to confront these people who want to steal the democracy we served to protect.
These will be trying times, but even if our candidates lose we must not let democracy lose. Democracy has already been stolen in states like Michigan with the appointment of so-called emergency managers who have stripped communities of their elected representative governments. We're fighting for the very survival of the United States that was originally designed to be a government "by the people, for the people".
Remember the America that unselfishly sacrificed many great soldiers on the the shores of France. That is the spirit we need to reclaim. We need to reject globalist policies that put profit and personal wealth above all else in our nation.
The refusal to compromise only leads to civil war, and if that's where the extremist right in our country wants to go, then there are many of us who are trained to meet that challenge. Maybe then they'll realize what "real Americans" will do to protect our freedom and civil rights guaranteed by our constitution. All who served in the US armed forces took an oath to protect this country from all enemies, both foreign and domestic; and we'll do so if given no other option. Those who want to steal (or buy) our democracy may pay their mercenaries to protect their wealth and interests while they oppress the masses, but one lesson learned from the "Arab Spring" is that mercenaries only protect you until the money runs out.
Watch the video of an angry mob killing the Libyan leader who thought he was untouchable, and maybe then you'll understand the most likely outcome of outright civil war between the extreme right and the majority of Americans who refuse to let democracy be stolen by anyone.
If this country is torn apart by civil war, we all lose; and we'll continue to lose for decades. Our common goal should be peace and compromise. We can get there only if we can move more toward the middle as a nation. Democracy by definition can't be a one way street.
I respect reasonable Republican views and know that we need to keep a good balance between right and left, but the GOP I see now isn't interested in compromise for the good of the majority. If extremists in the GOP have to lie, cheat, and steal to win an election then something is seriously wrong with those ideals.
We're Americans first, and we need to respect everyone regardless of their differences in race, culture, religion, and politics. We can resolve our differences peacefully, but we can't do that without a sincere effort to compromise so that our country can move forward in a way that leaves fewer behind.
